Supreme Court Post

I barely knew anything about the Supreme Court. I have always been one to think of them as some far away group of people that do not get used that much.

On the one hand I was right, they only take about one hundred cases a year for full review, even though they get almost 7,000 a year. I also thought that the supreme court would take "big cases" like a crazy murderer not "big cases" like this affects our constitutional rights. That may sound dumb, but anytime we talk about the Supreme Court it feels like they are these god-like people with unbiased opinions. This is far from the truth; in reality it is nine people making a decision they believe to be true and constitutional.

They are people too with the same underlying morals and ideals we each have. Getting nearly 100 cases a week must be extremely irritating especially knowing that it is someone unhappy with the appellate court's ruling. Having to go through every case and write these opinion writings would take a lifetime, so cutting down on those cases at the beginning is crucial.

I had never heard of opinion writing before. I think it is important and I like how they have to do this. Writing down how you came to a consensus even when you have that type of power it is important we can see how they came to their conclusions.
