Brown v. Board/ EOTO Reax
During the trial, there were numerous great arguments. Even though I was on the opposing side I really appreciated the argument Grace Ann made on how have two transportation systems, two schools two of everything is a waste of tax payer money. She could have just stopped there but he continued with how if the tax payers money went to one of everything not only would it be less wasteful, but it would be of higher quality for everyone.
Elliot took a long winding approach using the 2nd amendment to show that some amendments need to use exceptions and this is one of those cases. He argued that in the 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms, this does not apply for felons as they are a danger to society; likewise how (in his argument) African Americans are an exception because they don't need to have the exact same education.
Ariel talked about Sundown Towns which I had not heard of before. These were all white communities that would use discriminatory laws to keep out anyone different than them, namely African Americans. These communities expanded and would even cast out the black communities that were made during that time. Some are even still around today.
Lynx talked about Emmett Till, a young boy accused of offending a white woman. The woman claimed he had said he had "been with white women before" and grabbed her waist. Emmett was then kidnapped, beat up, and shot. Decades later the woman admitted that she had lied and made up the entire situation. This shows just how unjust these times were and how now decades later it is finally being brought to the surface.
These were just a few that stuck out to me, but I learned a lot that I had never new before. Such as the The Mississippi Burning and 4 little girls bombing. Overall, Brown won the case, but there were many horrible acts oppressing blacks and this has slowed, but still not fully come to a stop.
